He currently serves as a board member for Clovis Oncology, Trius Therapeutics, OpGen, and Immune Design, as well as public companies Cadence Pharmaceuticals (CADX), Veracyte, and Helicos Biosciences (HLCS). He also serves as board member at PhaseRx. He served as chairman and director at Veracyte. Prior to this, he cofounded and served as director of Perkin Elmer, Cetus Instruments, a joint venture for robotics automation and genomics research instruments and products later acquired by Perkin Elmer. He was the founder and also served as president and CEO at Glycomed, and he served as board member at Groove Biopharma. He served on the board of directors at Coulter Pharmaceutical and Pharmion. He received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of California. He also has a master’s degree from the University of California and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
